Standard 100 by OEKO TEX® 2018
2018-01-08

At the beginning of 2018, the OEKO-TEX Association, as usual, issued the latest version of the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX product certification test standards and limited value requirements. The standard will come into force on April 1, 2018 after the three month transition period. OEKO-TEX in China's official representative agency, TESTEX Swiss textile verification Co., Ltd., detailed the new rules in the 2018 edition of the standard.
1. "other residual chemicals" project added new material, the limit value requirement is more strict
1) in view of the total four product levels *, more substances are included in the "other residual chemicals" project, which include:
If one or more of such remnant chemicals are found to exceed the prescribed limit value during the sample test, the sample can not be certified.
Cause and significance of change: bisphenol A has been included in the European Chemicals authority's ECHA-SVHC highly focused material candidate list, which can exist in plastic materials and gel printing. Phenol can be absorbed by human skin. It has been classified as toxic, corrosive and hazardous substances, and may cause genetic defects. Sponge and other materials usually contain phenol. Aromatic amine aniline is classified as the 4 group of group MAK III by the DFG Advisory Committee, which is used to detect hazardous working materials. In the "suspected carcinogenic" (H351) and "suspected genetic defect" (H341) substances, the European chemical Administration (ECHA) focuses on the introduction of aniline.
2) at all product levels, the limit value of phthalic phenol (OPP) is tightened.  In Appendix 4, the limit value of product level I is adjusted to 10mg/kg from 50mg/kg, and the limit value of product level II to IV is adjusted from 100mg/kg to 25mg/kg. In Appendix 6, the limit value of all product levels is 10mg/kg.
3) for all product levels of Appendix 4, the limited value of short chain chlorinated paraffin (also included in the ECHA-SVHC candidate list) is reduced to 100 mg/kg. For Appendix 6, the limit value 50mg/kg is kept unchanged.
4) added "monitored" substance quinoline, but it has not yet stipulated its limit value. This means that in the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX detection process, quinoline will be tested randomly, and the results are provided to the application for reference.
The reasons and significance of quinoline can be used in the production of dyes and other chemical additives, the substance has been classified as ECHA CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic or induced reproductive toxicity), and the ECHA Working Group on "CMR material" in textiles under the theme of the discussion. Based on this, the OEKO-TEX association actively takes actions to incorporate quinoline into the monitoring range in the new standard, and uses the new concept of "monitoring" as the first step to collect important information to analyze the actual relevance of quinoline in textile materials and accessories.
Detection of decomposable aromatic amine aniline azo dyes in 2. "dyestuff" project
In addition to detecting aniline in other residual chemicals, the new standard will also detect aromatic amines and anilines cracked in azo dyes in the dyestuff project. In all four product levels (Appendix 4 and Appendix 6), the limit value of aniline is 100 mg/kg.
3. adjust the requirements of the "residual solvent" project in Appendix 6

In Appendix 6, adjust the N- methylpyrrolidone residual solvent under the project (NMP), two methyl acetamide (DMAc) and two methyl formamide (DMF) specific limits for the range of products, fiber material to make the standard more applicable to the current technical condition more types. Listed in the new regulations, according to NMP, DMAc and DMF three kinds of substances, the limited value of 0.1% for acrylic acid (PAN), (EL), polyurethane elastic fiber and aramid and polyurethane (PU), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinyl chloride paste, two polyvinylidene vinyl chloride (PVDC), polyvinyl chloride copolymer the coated materials and other materials in addition to the material outside the limited value of 0.05% rules still apply.

Adding new substances to 4. "residual surfactant wetting agent" project
The addition of heptenol, branched chain and direct chain and amyl phenol, branched chain and straight chain are added in the "residual surfactant wetting agent" project. The total limit values of alkyl phenol and alkyl phenol polyoxyethylene ether remain the same.
Causes and significance of change: heptanol, branched chain and straight chain and 4- TERT amyl phenol (-1,1-[two methylpropyl phenol) have been included in ECHA-SVHC's list of highly concerned substances.
The "color fastness of water resistance" in 5. product level I is more stringent
The color fastness in the product grade I is required to be upgraded from "3" to "level 3-4". In the future, it is expected that the OEKO-TEX certificate will be able to confirm whether the textile products are in conformity with the Chinese standard GB 18401:2010 (except for the label requirements).
6. description of the limited value of various substances in "six valent chromium" and "dyestuff" projects in the change of "extractable heavy metals" project
In order to compare with NGO and retail chain RSL list, the new standard's requirements for the limit value of six valence Chrome (VI) and various dyes will be directly reflected in the limit value tables of Appendix 4 and Appendix 6, instead of footnotes. Compared with the old version, this is not a modification of the limit value, only to make it easier to understand the modification of the annotation.
7. increase the identification of transgenic ingredients for organic cotton products
Since April 1, 2018, OEKO-TEX has planned to test the genetically modified organisms (CMO) for organic cotton products in STANDARD 100.
Through the above measures, the OEKO-TEX association has provided strong support for "ZDHC action" and "detoxification action". And in this way, OEKO-TEX can greatly enhance every link in the textile supply chain and deal with the potential harmful substances in textiles, and play a leading role in the effective protection of consumers.
In addition, from January 1, 2018, all STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX licensed companies should be the latest version of OEKO-TEX released in October 2016 on the STANDARD 100 product label on licensed products and promotional materials. All valid certificate holder can download two OEKO-TEX format by the official website of the self-service portal (PDF and PNG), the effective tag languages, there are relevant provisions on the use of OEKO-TEX tags in detail in Chinese the official representative of TESTEX Swiss Textile Testing Co. ltd..
Notes:
* product level:
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX hazardous substances detection standard is always located in the actual application level of textiles. The more closely related products, the more stringent human ecology requirements are required. The standard is divided into four product levels:
Grade I: textiles (clothing, toys, bedding, towels, etc.) used by infants and children under 3 years of age.
Level II: direct contact with skin textiles (underwear, T - shirts, bedding, etc.).
Level III: no direct contact with skin textiles (jackets, jackets, etc.).
Level IV: decorative materials (carpets, mattresses, etc.).
* * Appendix 4: routine STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX inspection project (material) and its limit value requirements. Based on human ecology, test whether the harmful substances contained in textiles will cause potential harm to human health and avoid negative effects on human body.
* * * Appendix 6: extension STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX inspection items (substances) and their limited value requirements, including and not limited to the inspection items (substances) in Appendix 4, which are more stringent than those in Appendix 4. It is specially developed for companies that focus on detoxification, and attaches importance to the investigation of "detoxicant substances" (Appendix 6 plus * projects), so as to enhance the environmental performance level of the production process.
